GYPSY MOTH SPRAYING

At our August 31 WBPOA meeting, the issue of Gypsy Moth spraying in the spring of 2020 was raised. At the time, the WBPOA Board had just become aware of the issue, and had very little information regarding the implications of spraying. It was agreed that the Board would review the situation and advise members of their findings.

We are now aware of the following:

  • It is legal to spray private property using a licensed contractor; however Tiny Township will not be spraying and WBPOA is supportive of this position
  • If spraying is conducted privately, the most effective spray is Btk
  • The cost is roughly  $350 per acre, with each additional acre costing $88. The minimum cost per property is $350
  • Spray Objection Waiver Forms are required from neighbouring properties unless they are also spraying
  • Zimmer Air is the contractor who will be providing this service in the Georgian Bay Area

WBPOA is not advocating spraying; this is an individual property owners decision. However, as noted above, waiver forms are required from your immediate neighbours if they are not spraying.

LAST LEAF PICK UP

If you are still working on getting your leaves cleaned up the last pick up is the week of DECEMBER 9th.

CONGRATULATIONS WBPOA

The Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) recognized the outstanding achievments of local environmental champions at the SSEA Partners Reception held at Horseshoe Valley on November 7th.  Woodland Beach Property Owners Association was recognized for their achievements and commitment to invasive species management in the Severn Sound area. This award represents six years of hard work and the dedication of our WB Phrag Busters, led by Jenn George and Ray Stittle on his trusty Gator and to all residents who work on their own to protect and preserve Woodland Beach. We couldn't do it without all of you.  Thank you.
